General Information on Ball Pythons

Scientific Name: Python regius

Also known as Royal Python

Called 'Ball Pythons' because, when frightened, they coil around their head and into a ball

Native to Western and West-Central Africa in countries as Togo, Benin, or Ghana

Average hatchling size is 16-18 inches

Average adult size is 36-48 inches

In captivity, the average life span is 20-30 years but 50 years is possible

Nocturnal (active at night)

Terrestrial (ground dwellers)

Constrictors (squeeze prey to death)

Prefer to live in areas of mixed grassland and trees (savanna)

Make good pets but like all other animals can be challenging at times

Often considered a 'beginner snake'

Currently one of the most widely sold snakes in the pet trade
